BRUSSELS THREATENS TO TAKE SPAIN TO THE COURTS IF IT DOES NOT PROTECT THE POPULATION FROM WATER POLLUTION
Brussels has demanded Spain to protect its population from water pollution.
The European Commission last month called on the Spanish government to accelerate efforts to comply with the European directive on urban water treatment.
If Spain does not acts in the next two months, the Commission can refer the case to the Court of Justice of the European Union, warns the executive in a statement.
The EC also ensures that in a 2016 investigation found widespread non-compliance with European legislation regulating water quality in most cities in Spain, and that despite this Sapin has not complied with its obligations.
